Use case · Banking

Import bank statement UAE files from any bank, in any common format

Live bank feeds are not available for UAE banks in HelloBooks, and many local and Islamic banks do not offer them to any software. The dependable route is the statement itself. HelloBooks accepts PDF, CSV and Excel statements from any UAE bank, works out the columns, skips duplicates, and hands the lines to the AI agent for matching.

How the HelloBooks AI agent handles it

You ask in plain English, the AI does the bookkeeping work, and you or your accountant approve the result.

  • You ask: “Here is the Mashreq statement for August as a PDF. Add it to the Mashreq current account.”
  • The AI agent: The agent reads the PDF, identifies date, description, debit, credit and balance columns, checks the opening balance against the last import, removes lines already imported, and starts matching.
  • You review: You confirm the column mapping the first time for each bank, check that the closing balance agrees, and review the matches.

Which format to choose

If your bank offers CSV or Excel, use it: the numbers come through exactly as the bank holds them. PDF works well too, including scanned statements, but a crisp digital PDF is better than a photo of a printout. Arabic narratives on the statement are read and kept as they appear.

  • CSV or Excel: fastest and most precise
  • Digital PDF: reliable, read line by line
  • Scanned PDF: works, with a check on low-confidence lines

Safeguards on every import

Statement imports can go wrong in quiet ways: the same week imported twice, a missing page, a sign convention flipped so that debits appear as credits. HelloBooks checks for each of these. The running balance on the file is compared with the balance computed from the lines, and any gap is shown before anything posts.

Files are stored against the account, so your auditor can see the source of every bank line. If a bank changes its layout, the importer notices that the columns no longer fit and asks you to confirm the new mapping rather than guessing.

Worked example: a Fujairah shipping agent with four banks

A shipping agency in Fujairah keeps accounts at four banks, two of them in USD. Each Monday the accountant downloads last week's activity and drags all four files into HelloBooks. About 320 lines arrive. The importer drops 14 lines repeated from the previous file, flags a AED 2,300 difference on one account caused by a missing page, and the accountant re-downloads that statement. Matching then takes under half an hour.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which UAE banks are supported?
Any bank whose statement you can download. Emirates NBD, ADCB and FAB layouts are commonly used, and other banks work through the same importer.
Will you add live feeds for UAE banks?
There is no live UAE feed today, and we do not announce dates for features that are not ready. Statement upload is the supported method.
Can my bookkeeper import statements for me?
Yes. Give them a user role that allows imports but not payments or deletions. We can tailor roles further on request; email hello@hellobooks.ai.
