TRN verification UAE: checking a supplier or customer TRN

A tax registration number, or TRN, is the 15-digit number the FTA issues to a registered taxpayer. It appears on tax invoices, in VAT returns and, from 2027, in every e-invoice. The FTA website offers a TRN/TIN verification tool so you can confirm that a number is genuine before you rely on it. This page explains how to use it, what the TIN is, and how to keep TRNs accurate across your customer and supplier records.

Using the FTA verification tool

The FTA site lists TRN/TIN verification among its other links. It opens a form with separate fields for a TRN and a TIN, each protected by a captcha code. Enter the number exactly as printed, complete the captcha and submit; the result tells you whether the number is registered and the name it belongs to.

Check the returned name against the supplier's trade licence. A valid TRN belonging to a different company is as much a problem as an invalid one.

TRN versus TIN

The Ministry's e-invoicing guidelines describe the TIN as the first 10 digits of the TRN. The TIN is what builds your e-invoicing participant identifier: 0235 followed by those 10 digits. Members of a VAT tax group each have their own TIN, even though the group files under the representative member's TRN.

The mandatory fields document asks VAT-registered sellers to show their 15-digit TRN as the seller tax identifier, and UAE-registered buyers' TRNs as the buyer tax identifier.

When to verify

Build checks into the moments that matter:

  • When onboarding a new supplier whose invoices will carry VAT.
  • When a supplier sends new bank details or a new legal name.
  • Before claiming a large input VAT amount on a one-off purchase.
  • When setting up business customers ahead of e-invoicing go-live.
  • Once a year across your top suppliers and customers.

Keeping TRNs clean in HelloBooks

When the AI agent reads a supplier bill, in Arabic or English, it captures the TRN printed on it and compares it with the TRN saved on the supplier record. A mismatch, a missing number or a TRN that is not 15 digits is flagged for review. The agent does not query the FTA tool itself; someone on your team runs the check on the FTA website and confirms the record. Firms that want a TRN review step added to supplier approval rules can request that customisation through hello@hellobooks.ai.
