Park a bill, pull it back later
Customer left their wallet in the car? Trying on three more shirts? Park the cart, free the till for the next customer, and resume in one tap when they’re back. State machine prevents double-settle.
Part of HelloBooks POS · Operations
Hold-and-resume is the difference between a queue that flows and a queue that stalls. HelloBooks gives you a parked-carts drawer per till (and per outlet), with a strict state machine that prevents the same parked cart from settling twice or losing its lines.
Every detail, dialled in
Built for the till, validated against the canonical accounting engine — so every POS sale closes the books cleanly.
Park in one tap
Hit Hold; type a label (customer name, table number, "the green shirt couple"); the cart vanishes from the till and lands in the parked drawer. Free the till for the next customer.
- One-tap park
- Custom label per parked cart
- Per-till and per-outlet visibility
- Auto-park on idle (configurable)
Resume from any till
A bill parked at till 1 can be resumed at till 2 — same outlet. Useful for chain stores where a customer wanders to a free counter. The original cart restores exactly.
- Cross-till resume
- Lines and discounts preserved
- Customer linkage preserved
- Audit trail intact
State machine prevents double-settle
Once a parked cart is resumed at one till, it locks — no other till can resume it. Once it settles, it is gone from the parked drawer. No race conditions, no double-charge.
- Atomic resume
- Single-active enforcement
- Auto-cleanup on settle
- Per-shift expiry policy
Why teams move off legacy tills
- No park; cashier holds the cart
- Queue stalls
- Double-settle on resume
- Cross-till impossible
- Park drawer with labels
- Cross-till resume
- Atomic state machine
- No double-charge
Questions, answered
How long can a bill stay parked?
Per-shift by default — closes with the shift if not resumed. Configurable to multi-day for hospitality.
Can a parked bill be edited mid-park?
No — to keep the audit trail clean. Resume to edit; park again if needed.
Can the customer pay later via UPI link?
Yes — generate a payment link at park time; on payment, the bill auto-resumes and settles.
What about restaurant tabs that open for hours?
Restaurant mode supports long-running open tabs by default; hold-resume is layered on for non-restaurant retail.
