NetSuite alternative UAE: HelloBooks vs NetSuite for growing companies

NetSuite is a full cloud ERP. HelloBooks is an AI accounting product. That difference decides most of this comparison. If your UAE company needs order management, procurement workflows and a dozen subsidiaries on one system, NetSuite is built for that. If you mainly need clean books, VAT 201 figures ready for review and an AI agent that does the daily posting, HelloBooks is the lighter path. This page sets out what each vendor says it does, using NetSuite’s own pages.

How the HelloBooks AI agent handles it

You ask in plain English, the AI does the bookkeeping work, and you or your accountant approve the result.

  • You ask: “Which bills from last month are still unposted, and what is our input VAT so far this quarter?”
  • The AI agent: The HelloBooks agent lists bills it captured but has not yet posted, shows each one’s supplier, AED amount and VAT treatment, and totals recoverable input VAT for the quarter from posted entries.
  • You review: Your finance lead checks the unposted bills, approves or corrects the VAT code on each, and decides what goes into the return before anyone files on EmaraTax.

What NetSuite says it covers

NetSuite’s ERP page describes a suite spanning general ledger, receivables, payables and tax, plus inventory across multiple locations, order processing from quote to fulfilment, and centralised procurement. Its OneWorld option is described as managing multiple subsidiaries, business units and legal entities in one system, with multiple currencies and tax rules. NetSuite also says AI is embedded across the product, naming Bill Capture, Narrative Insights and Planning and Budgeting.

For UAE VAT, NetSuite’s help centre documents a United Arab Emirates VAT Report produced through its International Tax Reports SuiteApp. It needs a UAE subsidiary and nexus. The report pulls values from transactions, exports to PDF and XLS, and NetSuite notes that some boxes may need manual entry. It also states the form is designed to look like the official one but is not meant to be printed for submission.

Where HelloBooks takes a different approach

HelloBooks starts from the bookkeeping job rather than the whole operation. The AI agent reads supplier bills in Arabic or English, proposes the account and VAT treatment per line, matches bank statement lines you upload from Emirates NBD, ADCB, FAB or any other bank, and drafts invoices. The VAT 201 return is prepared from that same ledger for the owner or accountant to review and then file on EmaraTax.

Setup is lighter because there is less to configure. A trading company in Dubai with AED 4.2 million revenue, two entities and stock in two warehouses can run both companies on the HelloBooks Business plan, which includes multi-entity management, lot and batch tracking, multi-warehouse inventory, an audit log and role-based access. What it will not get is NetSuite-style order management or a procurement module.

Be clear about one gap. HelloBooks has no live feeds from UAE banks; you upload statements as PDF, CSV or Excel and the AI matches them. Teams who need a different chart of accounts, approval rules or report layouts can request them by booking a call at /book-a-demo or emailing hello@hellobooks.ai.

Which one fits which company

Choose NetSuite if you run several subsidiaries across countries, need procurement and order management tied to finance, and have the budget and partner support for an ERP implementation. Those are real needs that an accounting product does not replace.

Choose HelloBooks if the pain is bookkeeping volume and VAT preparation rather than operations. A Sharjah services firm issuing 300 invoices a month and paying 150 supplier bills gets most value from an agent that captures, posts and matches, with a person approving the results.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does NetSuite file the UAE VAT return for me?
NetSuite’s help page describes a UAE VAT Report generated from transactions and exported as PDF or XLS, and it says the form is not intended for printing and submission. Filing still happens on EmaraTax. The same is true with HelloBooks: it prepares figures, and a person files.
Can HelloBooks handle a mainland company and a free zone company together?
Yes, on the Business plan each entity keeps its own ledger, VAT settings and reports, and you can switch between them. Whether each entity must register for VAT separately or as a tax group is a question for the FTA rules and your tax agent.
Is moving from NetSuite to HelloBooks realistic?
Only if you no longer need the ERP modules. Export opening balances, open invoices and bills, and the chart of accounts, then load them into HelloBooks. Keep a full NetSuite export as an archive, because the FTA can ask for past tax records and the retention periods set by law outlast a software switch.
Which has more AI?
Both describe AI features. NetSuite names Bill Capture and Narrative Insights inside a wider ERP. In HelloBooks the agent is the main way work gets done: it captures, posts, matches and answers questions in plain English, while people approve.
