Real-time weight, straight into the cart
Essae, Avery, Mettler-Toledo, Phoenix, AND, Adam Equipment — connect any RS-232, USB, or Ethernet scale and the live weight flows into the line item. Built for mandi, pharmacy, jewellery, and supermarket counters.
Part of HelloBooks POS · Hardware integrations
Loose-weight sales are where most POS systems leak money — wrong unit conversions, double-counted tare, manually-typed weights. HelloBooks reads the scale directly, applies tare and conversion, and posts the line in the unit you actually sell.
Every detail, dialled in
Built for the till, validated against the canonical accounting engine — so every POS sale closes the books cleanly.
Live read, no manual entry
When the cashier focuses a weighable item, the till reads the scale every 200 ms and locks the weight when the reading stabilises. The cashier never types a number, so they cannot fat-finger one.
- RS-232, USB, and Ethernet scales
- Stabilisation lock prevents drift
- Cashier-overridable with audit log
- Multi-scale per till (mandi + supermarket)
Multi-UOM and tare aware
Sell in kilograms, grams, dozens, or bunches — the scale reads the base unit, we convert and price accordingly. Tare is captured per container or per category and subtracted before the line posts.
- Base-unit conversion at every line
- Per-container tare values
- Per-category default tare
- Auto-rounding to the right precision
Precision counters supported
For jewellery, the scale resolution drops to 0.01 g and the line records both gross and net weight. The line print and e-invoice carry the full precision the regulator expects.
- Up to 0.01 g precision (jewellery)
- Gross / net / tare on every line
- Daily rate card multiplied by net weight
- Hallmarking fields available
Why teams move off legacy tills
- Cashier reads the scale, types the weight
- Tare forgotten or double-counted
- Unit conversion handled in head
- No audit trail on weight overrides
- Scale reads directly into the line
- Tare auto-applied per container
- UOM conversion at the engine level
- Every override logged to the audit trail
Questions, answered
Which scales work with HelloBooks?
Any RS-232, USB, or Ethernet scale that streams a weight string — Essae DC / DS, Avery FX / GX, Mettler-Toledo Viva / Spider, Phoenix, AND HV / FX, Adam Equipment.
Can I sell in grams while the scale reads in kilograms?
Yes. The base unit is what the scale streams; the sale unit is what the customer asks for. We convert and price at line-add time.
How does tare work?
You can set a default tare per container (paper bag, plastic crate) or per item category, and override on the fly. Every override is audited.
Is jewellery-grade precision supported?
Yes — down to 0.01 g, with gross/net/tare on every line and hallmarking fields ready for the e-invoice.
