Today’s gold/silver, per outlet
For jewellery and any rate-driven retail, the rate card updates daily per outlet and applies live at every line. Receipt prints the rate used; the audit trail captures who set it.
Part of HelloBooks POS · Promotions & pricing
Daily-rate retail (jewellery, commodity-driven categories, fresh produce) lives or dies by a clean rate-update flow. HelloBooks lets the outlet manager update rates in seconds; the till multiplies live; the receipt and the books capture the rate used at sale time.
Every detail, dialled in
Built for the till, validated against the canonical accounting engine — so every POS sale closes the books cleanly.
Outlet manager sets the rate
Rate update is a permissioned action — outlet manager (or above), not cashier. The change is audited; effective time is captured; downstream sales use the new rate immediately.
- Manager-permissioned
- Audit per change
- Effective-time captured
- HQ-lock optional
Live multiplication on cart
For weight-driven items, the line multiplies net weight × today’s rate × purity factor + making charges. The customer sees the math; the cashier verifies; the till never types a price.
- Live calculation per line
- Per-purity rate
- Making + wastage layered
- Hallmarking fee separate
Rate frozen at settle time
When the bill settles, the rate used is frozen on every line. Tomorrow’s rate change does not affect today’s receipts; the e-invoice payload reflects the actual rate at sale.
- Per-line rate snapshot
- E-invoice carries snapshot
- Returns honour the original rate
- Audit trail per line
Why teams move off legacy tills
- Rate on a whiteboard
- Cashier multiplies in head
- No rate-snapshot on receipt
- Return at today’s rate, not original
- Manager-set rate card
- Live engine multiplication
- Snapshot on receipt + invoice
- Return at original rate
Questions, answered
Who can change the rate?
Outlet manager and above. Cashiers cannot; HQ can lock rates entirely if the entity prefers central pricing.
Can I update rate mid-shift?
Yes — the new rate applies from the next line. Existing parked carts retain the rate at park time.
How are returns priced?
At the original sale rate, not today’s rate. The customer is refunded what they paid.
Does this work for fresh produce daily rates?
Yes — same engine, different category. Vegetable mandis use this for daily price lists.
