Compare accounting software by state in India

India runs one national GST regime, but the details that decide a software shortlist are set locally. Pick your state to see comparisons written against its own rules, its own authority, and the products businesses there actually use.

What we compare in India

Three buying questions, each with its own criteria set. The criteria differ by market because the questions do.

  • Accounting software

The general ledger itself — where transactions land, how they get classified, and how the local tax return comes out the other end.

  • GST software

Return preparation, e-invoicing, e-way bills, and the GSTR-2B reconciliation that decides how much input tax credit you actually keep.

  • Billing software

Getting a compliant tax invoice out fast — at a counter, on a phone, or from a delivery van — without breaking the books behind it.

Market conditions

  • The market is split between desktop-first incumbents with deep dealer networks and a newer cloud cohort sold direct. Switching cost is usually about the Chartered Accountant, not the software.
  • Almost every buyer needs GST return preparation in the same tool as the ledger — a product that only does bookkeeping gets bolted onto a second GST utility.
  • Price sensitivity is high at the small-business end, and per-user pricing is resisted because family-run firms share logins by default.
  • WhatsApp is a primary business channel. Bill capture and customer reminders that live in WhatsApp materially reduce data-entry load.

What buyers here expect

  • GST returns generated from the same ledger, not re-keyed into a separate utility
  • The Chartered Accountant gets their own login at no extra cost
  • Works on a low-end Android phone in a shop, not just on a desktop
  • Pricing per organisation rather than per user
  • Import from an existing Tally or Busy data file without manual re-entry
