What changed

The 2025 instructions list two items from the July 4, 2025 law. An HSA-eligible individual may have telehealth and other remote care coverage in addition to the high deductible plan, and a plan does not stop being an HDHP because it has no deductible for telehealth and remote care.

Contribution limits

For 2025 the limits are $4,300 for self-only coverage and $8,550 for family coverage, plus $1,000 for a client aged 55 or over. For 2026 they rise to $4,400 and $8,750.

Client questions

  • Did any month in 2025 include coverage other than the HDHP? If it was telehealth, it may now be disregarded.
  • Did the employer contribute through payroll? It shows in W-2 box 12, code W.
  • Were there any distributions, and were they for qualified medical expenses?
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does a telehealth benefit with no deductible disqualify an HDHP?
Not for plan years beginning after 2024. The IRS says the plan does not fail to be an HDHP for that reason.
