Questions, answered

What if the customer is not in the system?

Cashier creates a customer record on the spot (phone is the key). Return-without-bill still requires a recent matching purchase to unlock cash refund.

Can the customer claim an item not in their history?

Manager override only, with reason. The audit trail records every override.

Why default to store credit and not cash?

Cash leaves the building and never comes back; store credit keeps the customer in the franchise. Cash is one passcode away — but not the default.

Is this 30-day window mandatory?

No — configurable per entity (15 / 30 / 60 / 90 days). Pharmacy might use 15 days; electronics might use 90.
