QuickBooks vs HelloBooks in Ireland

QuickBooks Online is sold in Ireland in four tiers, from a single-user plan up to 25 users, with bank feeds on every plan. Its Irish pricing page says little about Irish VAT returns or payroll. HelloBooks is built around the Irish VAT3 and RTD, starts with a free plan and uses AI to code transactions. Here is how the two compare on what each vendor publishes.

QuickBooks’ strengths

QuickBooks is one of the best-known accounting brands in the world, with a mature product, a clear upgrade path from one user to 25, and automated bank feeds on every tier. Each plan also includes access for your accountant. Businesses that may expand into markets where QuickBooks is dominant sometimes value staying on one platform.

The Irish VAT question

The QuickBooks Ireland pricing page does not describe the VAT3, the RTD or ROS, so ask QuickBooks directly how it handles the Irish return before you choose it. HelloBooks states its Irish position plainly: the VAT3 boxes are computed from the coded ledger, the rate totals for the RTD come from the same data, and you enter both in ROS.

Users and growth

QuickBooks ties users to tiers, so a growing team moves up a plan to add people. HelloBooks has no user cap from Pro, which suits businesses where an owner, a bookkeeper, a manager and the accountant all need access.

AI and everyday bookkeeping

In HelloBooks, AI proposes the account and Irish VAT rate for each bank line and reads receipts and supplier bills, then waits for confirmation. The aim is that an owner spends a few minutes a week approving work rather than an evening entering it. Ask any vendor for a demo on your own bank statement; that shows the difference faster than any feature list.

Making the choice

Choose QuickBooks if live bank feeds on day one are essential and you are comfortable confirming its Irish VAT handling with the vendor. Choose HelloBooks if Irish VAT3 preparation, AI coding and a free starting point matter more, and you can upload statements while Irish connections roll out.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does QuickBooks do Irish payroll?
Its Irish pricing page does not describe payroll. Check with QuickBooks directly. HelloBooks does not include Irish payroll yet; it is on the roadmap.
Can my accountant access HelloBooks?
Yes. Accountants work in client books from their own login, at no extra cost to the client.
Which is cheaper?
HelloBooks has a free plan and QuickBooks does not. For paid tiers, compare current prices on each vendor’s Irish site, since both change from time to time.
Does HelloBooks connect to Irish banks?
Direct connections to Irish banks are rolling out. Today you upload statements as PDF or CSV files, and the lines are coded in the same way.
