Changes that matter for this client

The new and used clean vehicle credits are not allowed for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025. A vehicle counts as acquired when a written binding contract is signed and a payment is made.

The residential clean energy credit for solar, batteries and similar systems ends for expenditures made after December 31, 2025. The home improvement credit ends for property placed in service after that date, and the refueling property credit ends after June 30, 2026.

What to ask the client

  • On what date did you sign the vehicle contract, and when did you pay a deposit?
  • When was the solar system paid for, and when was it installed?
  • Did you install a home EV charger, and when was it placed in service?

What to set up

For business owners with a fleet, the commercial clean vehicle credit also ended for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025, so new fleet vehicles are depreciated without it. Keep the dated contracts with the asset record.
