Why it still matters

The cap is $40,000 for 2025 and $40,400 for 2026, and it shrinks for high earners. For owners above the phase-down, or with state tax well above the cap, paying at the entity level can still move the deduction off Schedule A. Run the numbers per owner rather than per entity.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Should every client keep making the PTET election?
Not automatically. With a higher federal cap, some owners now get the full deduction on Schedule A, so compare both routes each year.
