Use the calendar as your editor

Each quarter above follows the federal calendar in Publication 509: business returns and the first estimate in spring, extended returns in the fall, and the fourth individual estimate in January. When a topic depends on a date, take the date from Publication 509 for that year.

Keep each issue accurate

A newsletter is a public communication for Circular 230 purposes, so §10.30 applies: no misleading statements, and keep a copy of what you sent for at least 36 months. Link figures to an official source, such as our tax return changes pages, rather than restating them from memory.

And the CAN-SPAM basics

Every issue needs your physical address and a clear way to opt out, and opt-outs must be honored within 10 business days. If an agency sends it for you, the FTC guide says you still have to monitor what it does on your behalf.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Weekly or monthly?
Weekly works if each issue is short and useful. If you cannot keep that pace, combine four topics into a monthly issue rather than skipping weeks.
Can I reuse topics each year?
Yes, but re-check every figure and date. Thresholds and due dates change, and an old figure in a new issue is a §10.30 risk.
