How much does Odoo Accounting cost in 2026?
Odoo publishes three tiers, checked 28 July 2026: One App Free at $0 with unlimited users but strictly one app; Standard at $24.90 per user per month on annual billing ($31.10 monthly); and Custom at $49.00 per user per month annual ($61.10 monthly). Custom is what unlocks Odoo.sh and on-premise deployment, Odoo Studio, Multi-Company and the external API. Prices are quoted in USD; the discount is described as valid for twelve months for initial users ordered.
Can I use Odoo Accounting free?
Two ways, with real caveats. The One App Free plan gives you unlimited users on a single app — so accounting only, and adding any second app moves you to a paid tier. Alternatively Odoo Community is free and open source under LGPLv3, but you self-host it, you get no vendor support, and features such as bank-feed connectors and OCR digitization are associated with the Enterprise edition. Odoo does not publish a definitive Community-versus-Enterprise accounting feature matrix, so verify against your specific requirements before committing.
What is the real total cost of Odoo?
The per-user licence is rarely the whole bill. A realistic Odoo Enterprise line item is the per-user licence, plus Odoo.sh hosting if you use it ($8 per worker per month, $1/GB/month storage, $20 per staging environment per month — and Odoo.sh explicitly does not include the Enterprise licence), plus IAP credits for OCR digitization at one credit per document, plus implementation partner fees. G2 and Capterra reviewers consistently describe costs escalating beyond initial pricing once modules, users and customisations are added. We have deliberately not quoted an implementation range here because we could not verify one from a neutral source.
Is HelloBooks cheaper than Odoo?
For a small finance team, substantially. Five users on Odoo Standard is $124.50/month before hosting and credits; the same five users on HelloBooks Pro is $9.99/month total, with AI credits, API access and multi-entity included. The comparison narrows if you are replacing several business systems at once with Odoo, because you would then be comparing Odoo against HelloBooks plus a CRM plus an HR system.
Is Odoo a real accounting system or just an ERP module?
It is a real double-entry accounting system. Odoo's accounting app documents journal-entry management, general ledger, bank synchronisation and reconciliation, multi-currency with daily rate updates, accrual and cash-basis tax reporting, and pre-configured fiscal localizations by country. This is not a lightweight invoicing tool, and any comparison that implies otherwise is wrong.
How does HelloBooks handle inventory and manufacturing compared to Odoo?
HelloBooks covers more than most accounting products — item master, bill of materials, FIFO/LIFO/weighted-average valuation, goods-receipt notes, low-stock alerts, forecasting, a full warehouse module with receiving, put-away, wave picking and cycle counting, plus work orders, MRP and job costing. Every movement posts to valuation and the general ledger in the same transaction. Odoo goes further still in a full manufacturing deployment, with deeper shop-floor and quality modules. If manufacturing is the centre of your business, Odoo has more room.
What AI does Odoo actually ship?
The Odoo 19 release notes list several capabilities as generally available: AI agents that can learn from your documents and perform actions, "Ask AI" natural-language search that converts queries into Odoo domains, an AI button in the top bar, draft-with-AI email composition, AI field fill, and a choice of model provider. AI-powered invoice and bill digitization is the longest-standing feature and is credit-metered. Notably, no accounting-exclusive AI agent appears in the Odoo 19 release notes — the AI is suite-wide rather than purpose-built for the books.
What AI does HelloBooks ship?
AI auto-categorization at 95%+ accuracy, OCR bill and receipt capture with smart line-item extraction, Munimji — a conversational accounting assistant with 60+ tools — bookkeeping over WhatsApp in Hindi, English and Hinglish with voice notes, AI payables, AI calling for overdue receivables, a CFO agent, smart error detection, and an AI Analysis tab on every standard report. There is also a public read-only MCP server at agents.hellobooks.ai/mcp. It all draws on one credit wallet rather than per-document metering.
How long does Odoo take to implement?
It varies enormously with scope, which is itself the point. Reviewers describe steep setup complexity for non-technical users and frequent dependence on implementation partners. HelloBooks is designed to be self-serve — sign up on the free plan, import your chart of accounts with AI mapping that retains your account numbers, connect a bank feed and start. If you have no internal ERP capability, that difference in time to first close is usually larger than the difference in licence cost.
What happens to Odoo customisations when I upgrade?
This is the most consistently reported operational risk. Capterra reviewers describe updates as complex and often incompatible with customisations, causing operational disruption, and G2 reviewers report version-upgrade compatibility problems. It is the standard trade-off for a deeply customisable open-source platform. A managed SaaS ledger removes the risk by removing the customisation surface — which is a benefit or a limitation depending on what you need.
Can I migrate from Odoo to HelloBooks?
Yes, and Odoo is one of the easier sources to migrate from because you can get at your data. Odoo ships a built-in export tool, and if you self-host Community you have direct PostgreSQL access to the underlying database. Export chart of accounts, customers, vendors, items, invoices and bills to CSV and import them into HelloBooks, where AI mapping retains your existing account numbers. Our migration process includes a dry-run preview and one-click rollback so you can test before committing. Note that programmatic API extraction from Odoo Online requires the Custom plan.
Does HelloBooks support multi-company consolidation like Odoo?
HelloBooks includes multi-entity management from Pro at $9.99/month with consolidation reporting for cross-company views. In Odoo, Multi-Company is a Custom-tier feature at $49.00 per user per month. We should be honest about the ceiling though: if you need automated intercompany eliminations and consolidated IFRS in-platform across many entities, a dedicated mid-market ERP is a better fit than either of us at the entry tiers.
Which is better for India GST?
HelloBooks, if GST filing is the requirement. HelloBooks files GSTR-1, 3B and 9 through a GSTN-authorized GSP (Fynamics), with GSTR-2B and IMS reconciliation, ITC matching, e-invoicing IRN and QR generation through the IRP, e-way bills through the NIC portal, and multi-GSTIN switching per entity — plus a Tally 6.2 connector that keeps every voucher number on import. Odoo has an India fiscal localization, but direct GSP filing and e-invoicing depend on which localization modules and version you deploy, so verify against your intended configuration.
Is HelloBooks open source like Odoo Community?
No. HelloBooks is a managed SaaS product and the application source is not published. Our MCP server is public on GitHub, and we support CSV and Excel export throughout so your data is portable, but you cannot fork the platform. If owning and extending the codebase is a requirement, Odoo Community is the right answer and we would not try to argue you out of it.
Is HelloBooks secure enough to replace a self-hosted Odoo?
HelloBooks is SOC 2 Type II certified with the report available under NDA through the Trust Center; ISO 27001 is on the compliance roadmap and we do not claim it as certified. Data is AES-256 encrypted at rest and TLS 1.2+ in transit, MFA is available, hosting is AWS with 99.9% uptime and daily encrypted backups, and bank connections are read-only. For teams that were self-hosting mainly because of data-control concerns, the Trust Center documents residency and sub-processors in detail.
What is Odoo clearly better at?
Breadth and control. Nothing in this comparison set matches a single database spanning accounting, manufacturing, inventory, CRM, HR, e-commerce, project and field service — nor the freedom of an LGPLv3 codebase on PostgreSQL that you can host and modify yourself. If you have the technical capacity and genuinely need that breadth, Odoo is the stronger platform and the licence cost is secondary to what you are buying.
