One template per service

Start with the services that repeat most: monthly bookkeeping, individual returns, partnership and S corporation returns, and the 1099 run. Each template lists tasks, the role that owns each, and how many days before the due date it should be done.

  • Monthly bookkeeping and close
  • Individual return
  • Partnership or S corporation return
  • Year-end 1099 preparation

Dates come from the IRS calendar

Publication 509 gives the federal due dates. In 2026, partnership and S corporation returns were due March 16 and individual returns April 15. Set template tasks relative to those dates so they move when the calendar does.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How detailed should a template be?
Detailed enough that a new staff member can follow it, short enough to read in a minute. Put the detail in linked checklists.
Should the client see the tasks?
Only their own: documents to send and items to sign. Internal review steps stay internal.
