Pune auto-parts manufacturer migrates 8 years of Tally data in under 4 hours

The Shirke family has been supplying precision-turned auto parts to tier-2 OEM vendors in the Pune-Chakan corridor since 2004. When the second generation took over in 2022, they knew the business needed cloud-based reporting — but they also knew that migrating away from Tally meant disrupting a system that 23 people could navigate with their eyes closed. The first migration attempt, in 2023, ended when the target system couldn't handle multi-unit items (a part might be bought in kg and sold in pieces, with a conversion factor). The second attempt, in early 2025, produced a trial balance that was off by ₹3.4L — never traced to source, eventually abandoned. HelloBooks approached the migration differently. The wizard asked about entity type, industry, and country, then pre-loaded a country-aware chart of accounts for Indian manufacturing. Before touching the Tally XML, it ran a preflight scan: checking for HSN codes not in the master database, custom UoMs without a known conversion, account names that would collide with the target COA, and multi-GSTIN configurations requiring entity-level separation. Of the 14 preflight warnings, 12 were auto-resolved (Tally blank UoMs defaulted to NOS at the BFF layer, as intended) and 2 required a 5-minute mapping decision by the accountant. Import took 38 minutes. The trial balance matched to the paisa. The two-way Tally sync now keeps the desktop workstations operational. Entry staff continue to use TallyPrime for day-to-day vouchers; HelloBooks syncs them in near-real-time and adds GST portal filing, GSTR-2B reconciliation, and a cloud dashboard the proprietor checks from his phone. The team got the cloud features without a single training session on a new UI.
