HSN Code Search
Search HSN codes (goods) and SAC codes (services) by code or description and see the applicable GST rate (0 %, 5 %, 12 %, 18 %, or 28 %). Curated dataset, loads in milliseconds, works offline once cached.
How to use this HSN code search
Type the start of an HSN or SAC code (e.g. 0901 for coffee, 8517 for phones) or a keyword from the product / service description (e.g. rice, construction, laptop). The table filters live as you type. Use the scope dropdown to restrict to HSN (goods), SAC (services), or both, and the rate filter to surface only items in a particular GST slab.
For invoicing, pick the most specific code that matches your product or service — 4-digit if your turnover is under ₹5 crore, 6-digit if above. The rate column shows the standard GST percentage; some items have additional cess on top (notably tobacco, aerated drinks, and certain automobiles). When in doubt, verify the rate against the latest CBIC notification before issuing an invoice.

Frequently asked questions
- What is an HSN code and why do I need it on GST invoices?
- HSN (Harmonized System of Nomenclature) is the World Customs Organization's product-classification system, adopted by India for GST. Every goods invoice must carry an HSN code on each line; the code determines the GST rate (0 %, 3 %, 5 %, 12 %, 18 %, or 28 % plus cess for some categories). Businesses with turnover above ₹5 crore must use 6-digit HSN; up to ₹5 crore, 4-digit HSN is sufficient for B2B invoices and HSN is optional for B2C below the limit.
- What is SAC, and how is it different from HSN?
- SAC (Services Accounting Code) is the parallel classification for services. SACs start with 99 (Chapter 99) and run from 9954 (construction) through 9999. Use SAC on service invoices the same way you use HSN on goods invoices. Both share the same GST rate slabs but the codebooks are different — this tool searches both at once and you can filter by scope.
- How accurate are the GST rates in this tool?
- The dataset reflects the standard GST rate per CBIC notification as of the latest GST Council decision before this tool was last updated. Rates for a handful of items (especially cess-attracting luxury / sin goods) can have multiple sub-rules, and the Council updates the schedule a few times a year. For filing, cross-check against the latest CBIC notification or your accountant — this tool is a starting point, not the final say.
- Why doesn't every HSN code show up in search?
- The official tariff schedules thousands of 6-digit and 8-digit codes. This tool ships a curated set of the most-frequently-searched chapters and subheadings so it loads instantly even on a slow connection. If a code you need isn't listed, look it up on the CBIC GST tariff PDF, or use HelloBooks — which keeps the full HSN / SAC codebook synced and suggests the right code from the item description.
