1. Where HelloBooks pulls ahead in India

GST workflow built specifically around the Indian commerce-department patchwork — multi-GSTIN with per-registration filings, native Section 143 + ITC-04 for textile/job-work clusters, inverted-duty refund (Rule 89(5)) for exporters, AI calling for AR. India payroll (PF/ESIC/gratuity) is in-platform, not a separate paid add-on. Tally voucher migration is XML-level so audit continuity is preserved.

2. Where Zoho Books has the edge

A larger app ecosystem (Zoho CRM, Desk, Projects) so businesses already invested in Zoho stay productive. Mature client portal for receivable self-service. Long track record with India CA firms.

3. How to choose

If your business is GST-heavy (manufacturing, trading, textile, ecommerce) or you want India payroll bundled in the same product, HelloBooks. If you are already on the Zoho ecosystem and the rest of your stack (CRM, Desk, Projects) is Zoho, Zoho Books reduces switching cost.

Frequently asked — India

Does HelloBooks file GSTR-1, 3B, 6 and 8 directly?

Yes — directly through a Fynamics GSP integration. GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-6 (ISD) and GSTR-8 (TCS by ECO) are all filed from inside the product. Zoho Books also files directly through its own GSP infrastructure for GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B; GSTR-6 and GSTR-8 are less commonly used and routed via export-import.

Is India payroll included or a separate add-on?

HelloBooks includes India payroll — PF, ESIC, gratuity, FBP, profession tax (PTRC for Maharashtra, KPT for Karnataka, CTPT for Tamil Nadu and others), Form 16 annual and Form 24Q quarterly — at no extra cost on Pro and Business plans. Zoho Payroll is a separately priced product (around ₹50/employee/month) that integrates with Zoho Books.

How does Tally migration compare?

HelloBooks runs a bidirectional Tally XML voucher bridge — sales, purchase, payment, receipt, journal, contra, debit/credit note and stock journal — preserving original voucher numbers and narration. CAs can continue auditing in Tally while operations move to HelloBooks. Zoho Books offers a one-time Tally import (no bidirectional sync) so the cutover is sharper.

Which one handles multi-GSTIN better?

Both support multi-GSTIN: HelloBooks via multiple registrations under one entity with consolidated management P&L; Zoho Books via separate organisations per GSTIN with Zoho Analytics for consolidation. HelloBooks is slightly leaner if you do not need the full Zoho Analytics stack.

Is AI calling for AR collection worth it?

For distributors and small-ticket B2B sellers with a long tail of overdue invoices, yes — the AI dialer (Elision + ElevenLabs) places polite reminder calls where a human caller is not cost-effective. Zoho Books does not offer this; AR follow-up is via email/portal reminders.

What does the entry-level Pro plan cost in India for each?

HelloBooks Pro is ₹399/month on annual billing with unlimited users on the plan limits. Zoho Books Standard is ₹749/org/month on annual billing with 5 users included; additional users billed separately. Inventory and payroll on Zoho are separate paid products.
